Wedding Rehearsal Dinners
Rehearsal Dinners
The American trend that’s made its way over to the UK
In the UK we don’t tend to rehearse the wedding ceremony quite like they do in America. However whether you have a run through or not holding a dinner the night before is a lovely idea for so many reasons (listed below).
What is a rehearsal dinner?
It is a casual, relaxed meal with your immediate family on both sides and the people that make up your wedding party such as the best man, ushers and bridesmaids. It’s usually held the evening before the wedding and is a great way for everyone to get to know each other a bit better before the day, a chance to really spend time and thank those who have helped and something fun to do together when everyone has arrived from out of town the night before the big day.
In the US the groom’s parents traditionally arrange the event but this isn’t set in stone. You may want to take control and organise things yourself to ensure it is exactly the way you want it. However, many brides already have enough on their plate and if you are one of them, letting your future mother-in-law sort out the feast will give her a role in the event and let you have an evening off.
Reasons to have a rehearsal dinner
- It helps the main group bond ahead of the wedding
- It’s a fun thing to do the evening before as people arrive
- You can give any gifts you have for people to wear on the day such as cuff links or jewellery
- You can run through any wedding day tasks with the relevant people
- You can spend quality time with your extended family and closest friends and thank them for their input into the preparations
Ideas for wedding rehearsal dinners
The Pop-Up Dining Room offers you a formal sit down dinner for up to 20 in its mini marquee. We can cater for up to 40 for a hot/cold buffet or for drinks and canapés.
We can organise and manage a BBQ, buffet or sit down dinner in your or a friend’s or family member’s home or garden.
We can come to your venue or rented accommodation and set up there (with permission). For example if your parents are not local and have hired a cottage for the weekend we can cater the party from this house or garden. The venue itself may have a smaller, alternative room that is not being used for the main wedding celebrations and this can sometimes be booked for a rehearsal dinner.
